Gesù sanguina abbondantemente dalle sue ferite e tiene gli strumenti usati per batterlo , un' three-knotted frusta e fascio di betulle . Indossa la corona di spine , appoggiando la testa alla mano destra in un gesto di dolore . L'altra mano poggia su una sporgenza , una posa che dürer usava spesso per aggiungere un senso di profondità a un ritratto . Il viso è dipinto con grande realismo . Su uno sfondo d'oro , Cristo guarda fuori dal quadro , esprimendo le dimissioni per il suo destino . questo pannello devozionale è stato identificato come un dürer in 1941 e sebbene non firmato, ora è ampiamente accettato come opera dal giovane artista . risale ai suoi giorni da giornalista e potrebbe essere stato fatto a strasburgo , probabilmente dentro 1493 o all'inizio 1494 .
